YSA is launching the inaugural YSA List of “The 25 Most Powerful and Influential Young People” in celebration of our 25th Anniversary.

The YSA List will recognize 25 young people (ages 5 – 25) around the world that have made significant, large-scale change in Health, Education, Human Service, Human Rights, and the Environment.

We will announce the YSA List on Global Youth Service Day 2012 (April 20-22).

The 25 winners will receive $1,000 awards to support their ongoing efforts to change the world.

Success Won’t Wait receives 3,500+ book donation from the Mitzvah Circle Foundation

Volunteer Jazmine Wood helps organize approximately 3,500 books received from the Mitzvah Circle Foundation!

As most of you know, Success Won’t Wait accepts book donations from many sources — publishers, book stores, and individual citizens. Every once and a while, we are fortunate to meet another organization with complementary goals. And, that’s just what happened when one of our biggest supporters put us in touch with the Mitzvah Circle Foundation!

The Foundation provides support in the form of goods, service, gift cards and information for individuals and families when they are in a time of need. They also provide opportunities for people who want to help others to do so — encouraging volunteers to reach out to others in innovative ways . One example is the Foundation’s Adopt-a-Class Program which gives school supplies, clothing and other essential items to school children living in difficult circumstances or poverty.

Yesterday, representatives from the Foundation delivered a van full of like-new books for elementary school aged children through adults – over 90 boxes worth. Preliminary estimates put the donation somewhere over 3,500 books!

Many, many thanks to the wonderful folks at the Mitzvah Circle Foundation for this generous donation. Now we can really get busy and fulfill some of the book requests from schools, libraries, and teachers that have been languishing for lack of age-appropriate books!

Success Won’t Wait and the Charter School of Wilmington team up to send children’s books to Cameroon, Africa

Success Won't Wait volunteers Elizabeth and Anna Gonye took leadership on the Africa donation and have processed hundreds of children's books to date.

Charter School of Wilmington recently hosted a book drive to support its partner school, the Government School M’mouck in Cameroon, Africa. The school is building its first library and Charter students pledged to help supply them with necessary books. Since two active Success Won’t Wait volunteers are students at Charter, we knew we had to get involved!

Volunteers Elizabeth and Anna Gonye have been busy getting children’s and scholarly books ready for shipping. So far, the girls have processed about 200 books, with many more to come.

Success Won’t Wait donates over 800 books to Friends of the Hockessin Library for upcoming Used Book Sale, January 19-22

This week, Success Won’t Wait volunteers delivered over 800 books to the Friends of the Hockessin Library for the Annual Used Book Sale at the Hockessin Memorial Hall in Hockessin, Delaware.

The Used Books Sale is the group’s largest fundraiser and generates income for library programs and special projects.

A great collection of mysteries, biographies, science fiction, cookbooks, children’s books, gardening and art books, literary classics and much more!

Success Won’t Wait volunteers provide 300 adult fiction and non-fiction books to the AI duPont Hospital’s Family Resource Center

Family Resource Center coordinator Judith Mason receives 300 books for the AI dupont Hospital.

This week, the A.I. DuPont Hospital received the latest in a series of book donations by Success Won’t Wait. Over 300 beautiful, hardbound books will help keep the Family Resource Center stocked with reading materials.

The Family Resource Center is a haven for families whose children are receiving treatment at the hospital. The Family Resource Center, providing families a warm and welcoming place to relax during their child’s hospital stay, along with a library and business center, kitchenette, and laundry room.

A.I. DuPont Hospital is a part of Nemours which employs 4,100 professionals, including more than 420 specialty and subspecialty physicians and surgeons. Nemours is one of the nation’s largest health systems dedicated to the health of children.

Success Won’t Wait volunteer Matt McNeill receives the first Kids Are Heroes Award for 2012

Success Won’t Wait volunteer Matt McNeill was named the first student in 2012 to receive a Kids Are Heroes Award for his outstanding service to the literacy organization and his local community over the past 9 years. Matt’s profile is highlighted on the Kids Are Heroes website where he joins other outstanding youths throughout the world who are making a real difference — like drilling water wells in Africa, helping orphans in India, and building homes in Haiti.

Kids Are Heroes is a non-profit that empowers, encourages and inspires children to become leaders through volunteerism and community involvement. They do this by showcasing and supporting children who are making a difference through their selfless acts of giving.

Literacy organization Success Won’t Wait donates over 500 new children’s books to Toys for Tots program

Over 500 books were donated today for the fourth annual Success Won’t Wait Toys for Tots project. The Toys for Tots program helps less fortunate children throughout the United States by providing them with a new toy at Christmas.

Success Won’t Wait donates 500 children’s books to The Charles H. Bullock School in Montclair, New Jersey

This week, Success Won’t Wait made a 500 book donation to the students of The Charles H. Bullock School in Montclair, New Jersey.

The Charles H. Bullock School is a vibrant, nurturing community of students, educators and families whose mission is “to inspire children to be lifelong learners by connecting teaching and learning meaningfully to the world around us.”

This is first collaboration between Success Won’t Wait and The Charles Bullock School and we look forward to partnering with the great teachers and administrators there who are making a real difference in the lives of Bullock’s students.
