Reading aloud to young children sets them up for success. And, the Pottstown NAACP is dedicated to creating a lifelong love of reading in the children they serve! So recently, Success Won’t Wait made two separate book donations totally over 700 books, for distribution to the children of Pottstown, PA.
Many thanks to volunteer Larry Jilk for bringing this initiative to our attention. And kudos to Bob and Sandy Bauers for their incredible efforts with Pottstown NAACP. Our Success Won’t Wait volunteers are looking forward to continuing this partnership for many years to come.
Pictured is Bob Bauers (who made the drive to Wilmington to coordinate the donation), as well as a recent Pottstown NAACP distribution event where children of all ages could choose a book (or two!) to take home.

About Success Won’t Wait
Founded in 2002, Success Won’t Wait is a not for profit literacy program based in Wilmington, Delaware. Our mission is to encourage reading, particularly by children, and we primarily service Delaware and the tri-state region.
Success Won’t Wait volunteers organize used book drives, calling on ordinary citizens to donate used books of all types for redistribution in the community. Over the past 22 years, hundreds of book drives have been held at many different types of locations. Both private and public schools – from pre-schools to the University of Delaware – have become involved. In addition, businesses, retail locations, churches, and civic associations serve as book drop locations for donations, or have themselves become large book donors.
But the greatest outpouring is consistently shown by countless individuals, who have scoured their garages, basements, and bookcases for unused books in support of the program and its mission. Success Won’t Wait has collected well over 1 million books, with approximately 3,000 of those currently awaiting distribution.
After books have been collected, they must be cleaned and inspected for damage. Pencil marks are erased, minor rips repaired, previous owner’s names are blacked out, and spines are strengthened. Books are then sorted according to category and age appeal. Finally, a Success Won’t Wait, Inc. sticker is placed on the inside or outside cover. This identifies the organization as well as provides information to any reader who might be interested in donating or volunteering.
