In honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, March is National Reading Month. And, it’s a perfect opportunity to encourage reading aloud to children in order to foster a lifelong love of books.
For parents, it’s important to start reading to your children from infancy. As they grow, parents can encourage children to be a part of the story. Taking turns reading, acting out a book, and discussing the storyline and characters are all critical elements to building children’s reading skills.
When they begin learning to read on their own, parents will have instilled a habit they won’t easily give up.
And, it’s never too late to start reading together! Reading together is a family activity that is fun and engaging – and a wonderful gift. Click here for more Read Aloud Tips.
Regardless of age, reading is fun and has many benefits. It’s essential for education and professional development and has long-lasting health benefits such as increased cognitive function, memory, vocabulary, empathy and decreased levels of stress.
Happy reading!
