February may be a short month, but it’s packed with excitement for library lovers across the country because February is National Library Lovers Month! This celebration was initially founded by Friends and Foundations of California Libraries in 2003 as a way to channel support for libraries in the state. But since then, it has grown rapidly and has been embraced by libraries across America and even in other countries, including Canada and Australia.
Why celebrate National Library Lovers Month?
- Libraries provide free access to an incredible variety of books for people of all ages and interests.
- Libraries offer meeting space for public events and socials, fundraisers, and classes.
- Libraries today go beyond just housing books and lend other media such movies, games, and music.

February 1: Take Your Child to the Library Day
Your local library is a wonderful place for children to play, discover, make friends, and develop a love of reading. Take Your Child to the Library Day is the perfect time to discover some library magic. From storytime, to craft programs, to ice cream socials each library offers something unique. February 1-8: Children’s Author and Illustrator Week
Need suggestions for new children’s books?
