This weekend, the First State Potion Masters – Harry Potter Alliance Delaware Chapter hosted a book drive and fundraiser as part of their participation in Thy Geekdom Con. The event was a celebration of all things “geek” in pop culture — from art to board games, comics to cosplay, TV to movies, video to anime, and of course…  books!

Thy Geekdom Con was held at the Crowne Plaza in North Wilmington and The First State Potion Masters – Harry Potter Alliance Delaware Chapter cleverly wove a community service element through their display. Attendees were asked to bring books to donate and then they could choose a “new to you” book.

In addition, attendees could have their photo taken at a “Have You Seen This Wizard?” photo booth. (The true Harry Potter “geek” will remember this newspaper headline after Sirus Black’s escape in Book 3 from the wizarding prison Azkaban!). Funds raised from the photo booth were also earmarked for Success Won’t Wait.

Many, many thanks to Patience Tew of First State Potion Masters – Harry Potter Alliance Delaware Chapter for spearheading the weekend’s event. This is an amazing group, based in Delaware, but the Harry Potter Alliance is actually a international effort to turn fans into heroes. The group is changing the world by making activism accessible through the power of story. Since 2005, The Harry Potter Alliance has engaged millions of fans working for equality, human rights, and literacy.
