Back to Basics Learning Dynamics, Inc., a full-service educational facility based in Delaware, recently announced its partnership with the not-for-profit literacy organization Success Won’t Wait, Inc. The two organizations joined forces to deliver over 1,000 children’s books throughout the State of Delaware for National “I Love to Read Month” in February, 2006.

The literacy project involved the purchase of 28 large baskets — one for each day of the month. These were filled with a wide variety of donated children’s books. Each basket contained at least 40 books for a total of over 1,000 books. During the month of February, Back to Basics employees and students delivered the baskets to offices and lobbies in a variety of locations where children frequently wait. Examples of locations include doctor’s offices, hair salons, dance studios, and auto repair shops.

“Delivering one basket of books a day is deceptively simple. Once the month is over, we will have provided over 1,000 books to various community locations, potentially reaching thousands of children,” says Success Won’t Wait Vice President and Co-founder Vincenza Carrieri-Russo. “Because we believe that giving children the opportunity to read is so crucial, we were delighted with the prospect of partnering with Back to Basics on this project.”

For over 20 years, Back to Basics Learning Dynamics, Inc. has served the diverse educational needs of over 9,000 students in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware. The firm offers one-on-one tutoring and educational instruction in over 50 subjects, as well as a state-approved alternative school at its state-of-the-art Educational Center. Back to Basics employs over 75 professional, degreed tutors and instructors and serves students aged pre-K – adult.

“This project gave us the unique opportunity to touch the lives of children by providing them with the chance to turn time spent waiting into time spent reading,” explains Back to Basics’ Director and Founder Beverly Stewart. Stewart’s ongoing commitment to the community includes participation in numerous charitable programs. In addition to the “National I Love to Read Month” project, Back to Basics and its employees consistently support community service initiatives including company-wide walk-a-thons, the adoption of needy families, organization of book drives, and Stewart’s own creation of an annually-awarded educational scholarship.
