The Toys for Tots Literacy Program offers our nation’s most economically disadvantaged children the ability to compete academically and to succeed in life by providing them direct access to resources that will enhance their ability to read and to communicate effectively.
According to the National Center for Children in Poverty, nearly 14 million children live in poverty. Through the gift of a book, we can provide these children with the tools they need to help break the cycle of poverty, one child at a time.
Now that Ashley is off at school as a college freshman, she has “passed the torch” to younger brother Matt (also a longtime volunteer for the program), who will organize the Toys for Tots donation for 2010.
Work is set to begin on October 23, national Make a Difference Day. The goal? Expand the program to surrounding Pennsylvania and Maryland programs, plus increase the total number of books donated!
