Success Won’t Wait, in conjunction with Better World Books, is holding an “Epic Book Drive” at its Wilmington location now through May 1. The children’s book drive will benefit children in New Orleans still suffering the aftereffects of Hurricane Katrina, which damaged 80% of the schools in the city.
Although the city has made progress in its recovery, in the most underserved areas, there’s still an appalling 1 book for every 300 children, according to the DoSomething Organization (http://www.dosomething.org/).

Books can be dropped off at the Success Won’t Wait office/warehouse located at 1729 Marsh Road in North Wilmington Monday through Friday between the hours of 10:00 am and 3:00 pm. In early May, Better World Books will arrive to collect the donations and deliver the books to New Orleans where they will be allocated to the schools. Some will also be sold to raise funds for New Orleans’ Recovery School District libraries.
“Although Success Won’t Wait generally accepts donations of all types of books, for this drive, we would appreciate children’s books only, from kindergarten through 12th grade,” says Christine McNeill. “Books should be in good condition with no yellowing, torn pages, or writing. Also, please do not include textbooks or any kind, workbooks, coloring books, or magazines.”
