On Thursday May 1, the Jefferson Council of The Charter School of Wilmington honored the school’s monthly winners with the prestigious Jefferson Award for Public Service. Honorees included freshman Christine McNeill, a Success Won’t Wait volunteer for over 10 years.
Christine was recognized for her ongoing literacy efforts, as well as for her leadership in the Epic Book Drive, which resulted in a donation of over 8,200 books to flood victims in New Orleans.
The Jefferson Awards are a prestigious national recognition system honoring community and public service in America. The Jefferson Awards are presented on two levels: national and local.
They began in 1972 to create a Nobel Prize for public service.Today, their primary purpose is to serve as a “Call to Action for Volunteers” in local communities.
