Back in 2004, Success Won’t Wait completed one of its’ first major projects – a new library at the Telegraph Road Learning Center – to celebrate National “I Love to Read Month.” Success Won’t Wait volunteers supplied over 1,000 books initially and created the alternative school’s first real dedicated library space.
The Telegraph Road Learning Center was eventually renamed The Central School. Each student followed an Individual Education Plan (IEP) specially developed to give them the opportunity to succeed. The program provided middle and high school level students basic educational skills with intensive individualized instruction in language arts, mathematics, computer education, science and social studies, with the primary focus on reading ability.
And throughout the years, Success Won’t Wait continued to support the students through ongoing donations of books to build up the existing collection.
Unfortunately, this year, the Red Clay Consolidated School District chose to close the school. The thousands of books Success Won’t Wait provided, however, are actually coming back! The Central School’s amazing Librarian Erin Gines has made it her personal mission to pack up and deliver well over 4,000 books to Success Won’t Wait. And, as school wrapped up last week, Erin delivered the final van full.
Many thanks to Erin Gines and the staff at The Central School! The books provided will help Success Won’t Wait fulfill many other ongoing book requests this summer.
