“We do not need magic to change the world, we carry all the power we need inside ourselves already: we have the power to Imagine Better.” – J.K. Rowling
The Harry Potter Alliance turns fans into heroes. The group is changing the world by making activism accessible through the power of story. Since 2005, The Harry Potter Alliance has engaged millions of fans working for equality, human rights, and literacy.
This week, members of the Delaware Chapter (The First State Potions Master located in Newark, Delaware) stopped by to share a little of their magic – and over 2,250 books for Success Won’t Wait’s literacy programs.
But, they are not the only group to participate. Through the annual Accio Books campaign, Harry Potter Alliance members have donated over 250,000 books and have helped build libraries around the world. These libraries can be found at The Agahozo Shalom Youth Village in Rwanda; community centers in the Mississippi Delta, the Bedford-Stuyvesant New Beginnings Charter School in New York City; the Brightmoor Community Center in Detroit, Michigan; Operation Breakthrough in Kansas City, MO; and Borderline Books in Gateshead, England and Leiden, The Netherlands.
Many thanks to the witches and wizards (and a few muggles!) in the group for all of your hard work! To learn more, visit The Harry Potter Alliance and find a chapter near you.
