Today, Success Won’t Wait was pleased to partner once again with Nemours duPont Pediatrics in their ongoing a book giveaway program for children who are patients at the Jessup Street clinic in Wilmington, Delaware. The donation of 200 books pushed the program total to more than 3,900 K-3rd grade books provided by Success Won’t Wait!

The program is simple — and effective. Every time a child has an appointment at the clinic, he or she is encouraged to select a book to read and then take home. Sometimes, siblings get into the act, too! By increasing access to reading materials, the program helps kids of all ages get enthused about reading (and it takes their minds off of the necessity of receiving shots, too!).

Why is this early reading program so crucial? The necessity of achieving reading proficiency by the end of third grade is well established among education professionals.

Unfortunately, despite best intentions, only 35% of starting fourth graders across the US are proficient in reading, according to the National Assessment of Educational Progress. So, programs like the Nemours Book Giveaway take on added importance.
