New Castle Elementary School receives almost 600 books from Success Won’t Wait

New Castle Elementary School receives almost 600 books from Success Won't WaitMay is National Get Caught Reading Month. But, at Success Won’t Wait, we want Delaware’s kids to “get caught” reading every month! To get them started, this week Success Won’t Wait donated 586 books to New Castle Elementary School in New Castle, Delaware. The event was part of the Colonial School District book giveaway which will make a free book available for every K-5th grade student in the district.

For this donation, we were joined by two very special guests. First, Miss Delaware Teen USA (pictured, right), made an appearance and graciously helped the children each select a special book to take home and keep. Second, “Irish,” the reading dog was there to land a hand (or maybe a paw?), as well! And, as always, Jennifer Ashby, M.Ed. Instructional Technology Coach at Colonial School District (shown, below), ensured that the entire event ran smoothly.

The donation included plenty of just-can’t-put-it-down-books for the school’s young students. A few favorites include  The Magic Tree House series, Misty of Chincoteague, The Time Warp Trio series, Goosebumps, and of course, plenty of Dr. Seuss! These books were culled from Success Won’t Wait’s collection and are books that the students may take home and keep.

Over the next several weeks, event organizer and Success Won’t Wait co-founder Vincenza Carrieri-Russo will visit each of the other elementary schools in the District to hand out books and take the opportunity speak to the students about the importance of reading (especially over the long summer months!).

New Castle Elementary School receives almost 600 books from Success Won't WaitPutting together such a large-scale donation was made possible due to the ongoing committment of our student volunteers from the Mount Pleasant High School Special Education Program. Many thanks also go to Vincenza Carrieri-Russo for acting as Coordinator for this project, Irene Huschle-Ledford of Mt. Pleasant High School for scheduling volunteers, and  retired Colonial School District teacher Mace Bloom who has been volunteering tirelessly every week prepping the donations.
