Every October, book lovers across the country celebrate National Book Month. It’s the perfect time to discover (or rediscover!) the joy of reading.

National Book Month was created in 2003 by the National Book Foundation. While reading is celebrated by the organization year-round, this month-long event is a great reminder to everyone to make space for reading in their daily routines.

Here at Success Won’t Wait, we are honoring National Book Month with a refresh of the free mini-library at the Claymont Community Center (CCC). This is the fourth time that the shelves have been replenished this year alone.

What began as a temporary display in celebration of Black History Month quickly became a beloved permanent fixture. The mini-library is a favorite stop for readers of all ages and is a powerful reminder that when books are accessible, communities respond.

This week, Success Won’t Wait volunteers sorted through our collection for just the right books for the CCC’s population. These were carefully checked for any damage and disinfected before being placed on the shelves.

Now filled, the mini-library is stocked with a wide range of titles for every age group, from pre-K board books, to elementary school picture books, to popular teen favorites, as well as both fiction and non-fiction for adults. The CCC’s mini-library offers something for everyone!

The mini-library is strategically located in the heavily trafficked entrance lobby of the CCC. Whether a community member is attending a class, participating in a program, or just stopping by, they can also browse the shelves, pick up a book, and take it home. No sign-out required! When they’re done, they can keep it, bring it back for someone else to enjoy, or replace it with a favorite title of their own to share.
