On October 15, the University of Delaware Athletics Department, Success Won’t Wait and the brothers of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity teamed up the UD stadium for a Used Book Drive. The event, which was organized by Siddiq Haynes of the UD Athletics Dept., was a huge success, netting close to 3,000 children’s books for Success Won’t Wait’s literacy programs!

Haynes is no stranger to community service. This former UD defensive tackle was the captain of the 2010 Allstate American Football Coaches Association Good Works Team.  Haynes received the prestigious award which annually recognizes college football student-athletes who demonstrate a singular commitment to serving their communities, protecting the integrity of the sport and showcasing its positive impact well beyond the playing field. The Success Won’t Wait Used Book Drive is just the latest in a long series of community service projects created by Haynes!

For the Used Book Drive, Blue Hen fans were encouraged to bring new or gently used children’s books on their way into University of Delaware Stadium to see the UD-Massachusetts match up. There were drop-off stations at both the west side main entrance and the east side main gates which were manned by Success Won’t Wait volunteers and the brothers from the University’s chapter of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity.

Book Drive participants were rewarded with a free game ticket voucher to either a future regular season football game, or a men’s or women’s basketball game, plus a 25% off coupon good for a general reading book at the UD Bookstore, courtesy of Barnes & Noble.

Many thanks to Siddiq Haynes, the University of Delaware Athletics Department, the brothers of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity, and all of our dedicated volunteers for making this event so successful!
