In 2002, as an 18-year old high school senior, Vincenza Carrieri-Russo co-founded the literacy organization Success Won’t Wait. Her dedication to eradicating illiteracy has only grown over the years and her ceaseless efforts to promote the organization offer ample proof! In fact, her personal mantra is, “PERSEVERE is the word to remember!”
So, everyone at Success Won’t Wait was thrilled when the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society nominated this extremely community-minded young lady as Woman of the Year. Vincenza, unfortunately, has a very personal connection with LLS. Her uncle was diagnosed with lymphoma but, thankfully, has been cancer-free for several years now.
In fact, since 1949, the survival rate for many blood cancer patients has doubled or tripled and in some cases quadrupled. And, many LLS supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers and are being tested in clinical trials for patients with a range of cancers including lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. Drugs like Gleevec, Sprycel, Arinza, Tasigna and Zolinza are now being tested for patients with other non-cancerous diseases like Diabetes, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Multiple Sclerosis.
Please join us in supporting The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) by making a donation to Vincenza’s fundraising campaign for LLS!
All donations are greatly appreciated and are tax-deductible. They’ll not only support LLS research but patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services, as well. Together, we really can beat cancer!
