This week, the students at Forest Oak Elementary School were invited to the school’s “Literacy Luau.” They knew that the event would feature a yummy pizza dinner, raffles, and lots of Hawaiian themed fun. What they didn’t know was that two longtime volunteers from Success Won’t Wait would also be there — with 100 children’s books to give away to attendees!
While parents were able to learn and experience several reading strategies to help their child become better readers, the children were able to meet Vincenza Carrieri-Russo, Miss Delaware United States and Margherita Carrieri-Russo, Miss Brandywine, America! The ladies handed out books, talked to the children about the importance of reading, and even shared some personal stories.

For example, Margherita set a goal for herself while she was still a student herself and read 4,000 books in just one year! The impressive feat was monitored and confirmed by faculty members at A.I. duPont High School and was certainly a motivator for the students at Forest Oak Elementary!
