Ice Cream Delight, in a unique partnership with the literacy organization Success Won’t Wait, Inc., has provided hundreds of free children’s books to local children over the last two years through its “Make Kids Smile Program.” This spring/summer season, the partnership will be renewed to provide even more free books to local kids!
The brainchild of Success Won’t Wait co-founders Vincenza Carrieri-Russo and Susan McNeill, the Make Kids Smile Program offers free children’s books to anyone who visits a partner location – in this case, Ice Cream Delight, 1301 Barclay Road, Wilmington Delaware (located at the corner of Marsh and Silverside Roads in North Wilmington).
“This July, Success Won’t Wait will celebrate its 12th anniversary, and as we continue to grow, we are expanding into slightly more unconventional methods of book distribution,” explains Carrieri-Russo. “When Ice Cream Delight expressed interest, we thought, what better way to make a child smile than to offer them a delicious ice cream cone AND a great book!”
“Since the program’s start in June 2012, Ice Cream Delight has distributed several thousand new and gently used books to kids of all ages, pre-K through high school,” says Carrieri-Russo. “And, since Ice Cream Delight will stay open through mid-October in 2014, the hope is to give away an additional 1,000 books this year, before the store closes for the season.”
