When the members of the Students in Action Jefferson Council at Newark Charter School contacted us about hosting a book drive to benefit Success Won’t Wait’s literacy projects, we were excited. After all, this was an incredibly motivated, community service minded group of teens!

Newark Charter’s Jefferson Council is a part of the national Jefferson Awards Foundation. Launched in 2006 by the Jefferson Awards Foundation and Deloitte, Students in Action develops high school students into community leaders. And, the program encourages teenagers to positively impact their schools, communities and world.

The book drive yielded much-needed children’s books — almost 1,000 of them! Since research shows that keeping kids reading over the summer break is crucial, the majority of the books collected will be used for a summer book giveaway for the K-5 students of Richardson Park Elementary School in Wilmington, Delaware.

A big thank you goes to the Jefferson Council at the Newark Charter School.  It’s through donations like yours that Success Won’t Wait is able to continue its mission to encourage reading and provide materials to those who need them most.
