Success Won’t Wait recently donated over 600 books to Castle Hills Elementary School in Delaware’s Colonial School District. The event was part of the special book giveaway for all K-5th grade students in the school district led by Success Won’t Wait’s co-founder Vincenza Carrieri-Russo.
The books, which were culled from Success Won’t Wait’s collection, are books that the students may take home and keep to read over the summer. The donation included plenty of perennial favorites and series such as the Biscuit, Hank Zipper, Henry and Mudge, Junnie B. Jones and more.
In addition to helping the students choose the perfect book at Castle Hills and each of the other book events, Vincenza also chatted with the students about the importance of reading. They even practiced reading as if we are practicing a sport, because if you want to get good at reading, you have to practice. And, for this event at Castle Hills, even Chelsea Bruce, Miss Delaware 2017, was there to lend a hand!
Behind the scenes, our student volunteers from the Mount Pleasant High School Special Education Program were essential in the project’s sorting, categorizing and stamping of hundreds of children’s books. And, many thanks also go to Irene Huschle-Ledford of Mt. Pleasant High School for scheduling the volunteers, to retired Colonial School District teacher Mace Bloom who volunteered each week prepping the books, and to Jennifer Ashby, M.Ed. Instructional Technology Coach at Colonial School District for ensuring that the everything ran smoothly.
