Discover Your Library Joy: Celebrate National Library Week April 19-25, 2026

There’s a unique kind of magic that happens the moment you walk through the doors of a library, with endless possibilities waiting on every shelf. This year, celebrate those possibilities during National Library Week, April 19-25, 2026.

National Library Week is an annual celebration highlighting the valuable role that libraries and library professionals play in transforming lives and strengthening communities. It is a time to recognize all that libraries and librarians contribute to our society and promote the use and support of public libraries.

In 2026, the National Library Week theme is “Find Your Joy,” inspired by Honorary Chair Mychal Threets! If you’ve spent any time on social media lately, you likely recognize the infectious smile and boundless “library joy” of Mychal Threets. As the host of the new Reading Rainbow revival on KidZuko and the author of the heartwarming children’s book I’m So Happy You’re Here: A Celebration of Library Joy, Threets is the perfect spokesperson for this year’s festivities.

His mission is simple: to make sure every person feels seen, welcome and happy in their local library. “I love libraries enthusiastically every week! To serve as Honorary Chair for National Library Week takes that enthusiasm to a whole new level,” says Threets. “Celebrating libraries, thanking library workers, visiting libraries is how I find my joy. There are so many library kids and library grown-ups who have yet to fully embrace their library joy, and I am so excited for them! When they enter the world of libraries and stories, I am confident they will find not only their library joy but their courage to believe in their own story and maybe even share it with others.”

During National Library Week, discover your library joy by getting involved. Stop by your local branch… and bring someone with you! Sometimes the best way to rediscover the library is through the eyes of a friend.

No library card? This week is the perfect opportunity to get yours… free. It’s one small step that opens up endless possibilities, from digital audiobooks to local museum passes.

And, don’t forget to challenge yourself to look beyond the bookshelves. Attend a program, join a class or check out offerings like “The Library of Things.”
