Brennen School is a public-school program within the Christina School District dedicated exclusively to empowering students with autism spectrum disorder. And, when Instructional Coach Jennifer Cohen (pictured) reached out to Success Won’t Wait to help boost library resources, we knew we had to help!
Because the school serves a population of students classified with autism (birth through 22 years old) the range of books needed was incredibly diverse. But, thanks to many recent donations throughout the summer, we have a large collection from which to draw.
According to Cohen, “The greater the variety, the better I can help students follow their interests.” So, this week we visited to the school and made our first donation of more than 150 books. These range from children’s picture books and easy chapter books, to comic books, kid-focused cookbooks, and non-fiction to help students explore new interests and promote greater literacy development.
By tailoring reading options and programs to meet individual needs Brennan School not only promotes a love of reading, but also a love of lifelong learning. Stay tuned for additional donations coming soon to Brennan School!
