Success Won’t Wait first installed the mini library, located at the Louis L. Redding City/County Building in Wilmington, Delaware in June 2025. The easy access to books has proven incredibly popular with New Castle County employees, and after a year of enthusiastic use, it’s time for an expansion! So, this week Success Won’t Wait volunteers added to space with both new titles and old favorites that are sure to fly off the shelves.

Inspired by the Little Free Library movement, the “bring a book, take a book,” encourages New Castle County employees to read for pleasure, share their favorites, and bond as a community. “We wanted to make reading materials easily accessible to our team during the workday,” New Castle County Council President Monique Johns explains. “Having a wide range of reading options right here in the building makes it simple to build reading into a daily habit.” (Click here for more information about how access to books impacts literacy.)

Located in the building’s busy break room, the mini library boasts a wide-ranging collection. The diverse selection spans multiple genres, including popular fiction, alongside inspiring biographies, cookbooks, and practical guides for parenting, relationships, and personal growth. The goal is to appeal to a range of interests, offering something that every employee can enjoy.

Employees are encouraged, not only to take books to read, but also to bring in their own favorites to share. In addition to periodic restocks and the expansion by Success Won’t Wait, this give-and-take system keeps the collection fresh and everchanging

The success of this mini library proves that promoting reading doesn’t have to be complicated. Sometimes, a simple shelf, some great books, and a shared love of reading are all that’s needed to make a big impact.
