Today is MLK Day of Service!
And, in observance of the day which honors the late Martin Luther King Jr. for a life of service and volunteerism, this morning we donated over 800 much-needed children’s books to the Delaware Stars for Early Success program. The Delaware Stars for Early Success program is a Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS) used to assess, improve and communicate the level of quality in early care and education programs throughout the state.
The books are destined for early care and education programs in New Castle County, Delaware that are participating in the Delaware Stars program and have demonstrated a commitment to continuous quality improvement. One of the key ways for these child care programs to earn “stars” is by creating a quality program environment, including age appropriate books for the children to read.
Success Won’t Wait volunteers Matt Papa, Vincenza Carrieri-Russo, Italo Carrieri-Russo, Margherita Carrieri-Russo, Mike McCallister, Nolan Moss, and Vincenzo Carrieri-Russo completed this first phase of the project. But, there are still many more books to donate!
Delaware Stars is funded by the Delaware Department of Education and administered and managed by the Delaware Institute for Excellence in Early Childhood (DIEEC) in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Delaware.
